Live sports tickets to attract maximum GST of 28%

Jun 30, 2017, 11:33 IST
If you like watching live matches at sports stadiums, be ready to spend more from tomorrow onwards, since the goods and services tax (GST) council has decided to put tickets under the 28% tax bracket under the GST regime.

However, only tickets for club culture in sports - like the Indian Premier League, will be put under the 28% bracket. Other matches organized by recognized sports bodies like the Indian cricket board or the hockey federation are put under 18% bracket.

Tickets that would cost you less than Rs 250 will not be charged any GST, but only a limited number of seats in a stadium are priced at this rate.

The reason behind putting tickets for matches conducted by recognized bodies like BCCI under lower tax bracket is that the government wants to promote sports and the teams representing India.
