At the India Gadget Expo 2014 held in Hyderabad, consumer electronics major LG has provided a glimpse into the wide range of hi-tech television sets that it plans to launch in India soon. The South Korea-based company is set to launch its Ultra HDTV portfolio, along with some other smart televisions based on its WebOS platform. The HDTV models will come at a starting price of Rs 1.5 lakh and will go up to Rs 15 lakh. On the other hand, the WebOS Cinema 3D TVs will be available for Rs 82,900-15 lakh.WebOS is the Linux kernel-based intuitive OS platform that the company acquired from Hewlett-Packard in 2013 for its smart TVs.
As for the specs, the Ultra HDTV is available in screen sizes of 49, 55, 65, 79 and 84 inches. The device also comes with forward-facing 5.2 multichannel sound systems, developed in partnership with Harman/Kardon. The built-in speakers feature LG’s Ultra Surround Sound concept. According to the company, these speakers will offer an immersive sound experience.
This one has also housed an Ultra HD Engine Pro to ensure optimal processing power that is needed to attain 4K video resolution (3,840x2,160). In order to eliminate unwanted visual artefacts, LG has integrated a proprietary chip that works with the engine. The Ultra HD feature is capable of upscaling HD or full HD videos to almost 4K quality, the company claims. It means you can watch 4K content on TV, too.
For those keen to own a WebOS TV, there are several options. To begin with, you can get these in 42, 47, 55 and 65 inch screen sizes. These smart TVs will come with an intuitive launcher menu, a user interface that will neatly arrange the utilities for easy access to the features and history. The launcher menu will also offer access to the LG App Store for TV shows, movies and games, open a web browser and more.
