Lexus' new coupe takes hybrid tech to the next level
Lexus first unveiled their new LC 500 coupe at the North American International Auto Show in January, but for the first time on Wednesday, they showed off the high-tech hybrid version. It might be a hybrid, but trust me, this thing is no Toyota Prius.
The LC 500h uses a 295 horsepower V6 engine, a 59 horsepower electric motor, and two transmissions to produce 354 horsepower.
One of the transmissions is a 4-speed automatic and the other is a continuously variable transmission. They're combined to help make the whole hybrid system feel more organic to the driver and to help put the power down better.
Lexus claims that the LC 500h will be capable of 0-60 within 5 seconds.
As is usually the case, the hybrid trim shares most of the crazy looks and design angles that's seen on the full gasoline model. And yes, they are pretty crazy.
That story's pretty much the same on the interior.
Pricing information and ship dates have not yet been announced. Expect to see more information regarding the LC 500h in early March during the Geneva Motor Show.
