After drawing inspiration from the Narendra Modi government's initiative of 'Make in India' as well as the huge opportunity to grab a big slice of the country growing smartphone market, Chinese multinational technology firm Lenovo is now planning to set up a manufacturing unit for smartphones and tablets in India.
As per a PTI report, Lenovo, which already has a computer manufacturing plant in Puducherry, enjoys leadership positions in sales of laptops, PCs and tablets across the nation. This tech firm is also planning to aggressively boost smartphone business in the country.
Bhaskar Choudhuri, director (marketing) of Lenovo India, said, "We are exploring the opportunity of setting up a manufacturing unit in the country.”
Chaoudhuri believes that there is a lot of opportunity to make it big in the smartphone space in the country as the current penetration of this segment is just 30%.
The company further believes that 4G/LTE will be the dominant technology in the years to come. (Image: www. pocketnow.com)
