This offseason, LeBron James left the Cleveland Cavaliers for greener pastures in Los Angeles, but he still takes time to check in with his former team when he can.
Before the Lakers took on the Washington Wizards Sunday night, the four-time NBA MVP tuned in on his iPad to watch the Cavaliers face off against the Philadelphia 76ers.
Cleveland had a considerable lead against one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference early in the second quarter when veteran big-man Channing Frye forced his way into the paint. Rather than going up for a contested layup, Frye made a cross-court pass to rookie point guard Collin Sexton.
The only problem? Sexton wasn't in the game.
The play caught James' attention, so he took to social media to poke fun at his former teammate's gaffe.
"Oh, good move Channing!" James said in an Instagram post when Frye first juked out his defender. Then came the pass. "What the f--k? What was that?"
Then he cackled into the microphone.
Frye was a good sport about the whole ordeal. He quoted a video of his blunder on Twitter and insisted that Sexton was, in fact, open.
The Cavaliers - who have won just seven games this season and sit only one game out of last place in the Eastern Conference - ultimately fell 128-105 to Joel Embiid and the 76ers. For his part, Frye contributed three points, one rebound, and a hilarious turnover in his five minutes on the floor.
Later in the evening, James and Los Angeles fell, 128-110, to John Wall and the Wizards despite the internal havoc currently plaguing the Washington franchise. Although he didn't go viral with any ridiculous errors like Frye, James took a lot of heat for his meager 13-point, 6-rebound performance in the loss.
Technically, Collin Sexton was open...🤷♂️
