  • Lonzo Ball mutually parted ways with his agent Harrison Gaines on Thursday.
  • The move at first seemed to indicate that Ball was moving on to a new phase of his career, but according to a report from Chris Haynes at Yahoo Sports, his father, LaVar Ball, is still exerting his influence.
  • According to Haynes, the elder Ball is helping direct Lonzo Ball's search for a new agent and asking potential representatives if they have the power to bring all three of his sons to the same NBA team.

Lonzo Ball is in a period of transition.

On Thursday, Ball said in a statement that he and his agent Harrison Gaines had mutually parted ways. The news came just weeks after Ball ended his relationship with Big Baller Brand due to more nefarious circumstances.

Ball says the two moves were unrelated, and that Gaines was a supportive figure while dealing with the fallout of the controversy surrounding Big Baller Brand co-founder Alan Foster.

With both departures, it seemed as though Ball was ready for a new beginning, but according to Chris Haynes at Yahoo Sports, one figure still looms large while steering his NBA future - his father, LaVar Ball.

According to Haynes, the elder Ball has met with a few agents on his son's behalf and is still attempting to engineer a scenario that brings all three of the Ball brothers on to one NBA roster.

"In the process of vetting agent candidates during meetings, LaVar is inquiring if the agencies have the power to pair his three sons - Lonzo, LiAngelo and LaMelo - on the same NBA team, sources said."

As Haynes notes, while Lonzo's youngest brother LaMelo is seen as a potential player, his middle brother LiAngelo is not considered an NBA-caliber talent.

LaVar has been an extremely active patriarch in the Ball brothers lives, which both helped propel Lonzo into stardom, but also became a drawback as teams began to see LaVar and the potential media circus he brings as a potential distraction.
