Love 'Pokemon Go?' Here's everything you need to know about the next Pokemon game
"Pokémon Sun" and "Moon" are not apps, meaning that you won't be able to play them on your iPhone or other mobile device. They're games for the Nintendo 3DS, which is a pretty impressive (and pocket-sized) piece of gaming tech that boasts glasses-free 3D. It's even crazier than it sounds.
The new games take place in the Alola region, which as you may have guessed, is inspired by Hawaii. A look at the map reveals a lot of water and tropical beaches, as well as desert regions, volcanos, and a snowy mountaintop.
One of the most important choices any aspiring trainer makes is picking their starter Pokémon. "Sun" and "Moon" introduced three new ones. The most popular on the Internet so far is Rowlet, a dapper-looking Grass/Flying-type.
Litten is a Fire-type cat with a surly attitude. He attacks using flaming hairballs.
The final starter, the Water-type Popplio, is somewhat of an Internet punching bag due to his clown-like — and some would say uninspired — appearance. But that seems harsh. Popplio just wants to be loved.
Professor Kukui, seen below on the left, will guide you on your Pokémon journey. He, like Professor Willow from "Pokémon Go" on the right, is fine as hell.
There are two main legendary Pokémon that we know about so far. The first is Solgaleo, a Psychic/Steel-type who is exclusive to "Pokemon Sun."
Lunala, a spooky bat-like Psychic/Ghost-type, is exclusive to "Pokémon Moon." If you like one better than the other, that's probably the version of the new game you should pick up.
It's unclear exactly how many new Pokémon are going to be introduced in the new game. So far there are 721 Pokémon, not counting any of the new ones like this adorable fat Electric/Steel-type, Togedemaru.
One of the most talked about new Pokémon is Yungoos, a mean-looking Normal-type. Fans have compared Yungoos expression and hair to presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.
Pikipek was one of the first Pokémon from "Sun" and "Moon" that we saw, as there was a peak at a wire frame of the Normal/Flying-type in the very first trailer. Pikipek is probably going to be the new games' equivalent of the Pidgey you keep catching in "Pokémon Go."
Komala is a Normal-type that can only fall asleep, Salandit is a Poison/Fire-type, and the cute dog is Rockruff, a Rock-type.
Cutiefly is a Bug/Fairy-type (That's right, Fairy is a new type of Pokémon). Bruxish is a Water/Psychic-type, and goofy dragon is Drampa, a Normal/Dragon-type.
Grubbin, a Bug-type, evolves into Charjabug who then turns into Vikavolt, both of which are also part Electric-type.
Tapu Koko is one of the "Alola Guardian Deity Pokémon," though it's not clear exactly what that means yet. The Electric/Fairy-type's design is kind of complicated.
Finally, there's Magearna, a Steel/Fairy-type. Magearna was revealed back in February, before "Sun" and "Moon" were officially confirmed.
Will the massive success of "Pokémon Go" make the new games a huge success, even though they don't take place IRL? We'll find out when we get the chance to catch all these guys and more when "Pokémon Sun" and "Pokémon Moon" come out this fall.
