  • Kroger confirmed on Monday that a $250 coupon making the rounds on social media is a scam.
  • "This giveaway is not affiliated with or supported by the Kroger Company. We recommend not engaging with the site or providing any personal information. Our team is actively working to address this issue," the company said in a statement online on Monday.
  • It is not yet clear how many customers have been impacted by the fake coupon. However, Kroger's Facebook post had been shared over 30,000 times as of Tuesday morning.

Bad news for Kroger shoppers: it turns out that the $250 coupon you may have seen making the rounds on social media is actually a fake.

The retailer confirmed the scam in a statement on social media on Monday.

"There is currently an unauthorized '$250 Kroger Shopping Coupon' circulating across social media. This giveaway is not affiliated with or supported by the Kroger Company. We recommend not engaging with the site or providing any personal information. Our team is actively working to address this issue," the company said in a Facebook post on Monday.

The fake coupon, which features Kroger's logo, offers shoppers $250 to spend in its stores.

It is not yet clear how many customers have been impacted by the scam. However, Kroger's Facebook post had been shared over 30,000 times as of Tuesday morning.

Some social media users are mocking customers for falling for the fake coupon.

"I'm confused about how people think Kroger would stay in business if they gave away $250 'coupons' away. It's common sense, people," one person wrote on Facebook.

"If people have any sense and read it, they will know it is fake. There are so many spelling and grammar errors, it is pretty obvious it didn't come from a professional company," another wrote.

All of Kroger's coupons can be found in a section on its website.
