Know why the Congress Party thinks it’s important to have 52 members addressing media queries

After its worst ever defeat in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the Congress has coined a new strategy to reach out to masses of India. It has expanded its media outreach, and surprisingly, this time, the number of spokesperson appointed by the party (52) has surpassed the total number of MPs (44).

Congress chief Sonia Gandhi has approved the list of senior spokespersons, spokespersons, secretary media department, media coordinators and media panellists of All India Congress Committee (AICC).

The party has appointed 4 senior spokespersons, which includes: Ajay Maken, Shakeel Ahmed, CP Joshi, Satyavrat Chaturvedi, 17 new spokespersons and 31 media panellists along with two media coordinators.

It appears that in the new team of spokespersons has been formed to save the party from landing in controversies every now and then. According to a news report, it will also give the Congress more teeth to strengthen its campaign against the Modi government's controversial Land Bill. It is believed that this bill is an amended version of a law enacted when the party was in power, the news report added.

On March 11, former prime minister Manmohan Singh was summoned as an accused by a Special Court in a case pertaining to allocation of Talabira-II coal block in Odisha in 2005. Singh has been asked to appear before the court on April 8.
