Know how the last day of the week began at Dalal Street

The Nifty had a modest start on the last trading day of the week as strong overseas cues helped the index maintain its upward momentum from a three-month high.The Nifty gained 7 points to quote at 8,615 points after touching a high of 8,640 in early deals. tech Mahindra, Axis Bank, BHEL and Tata Power were the top gainers on the Index, while ACC, NMDC, Ambuja Cements and Vedanta fell. The Advance-Decline Ratio was 38:12.
The trend was equally flat on the Sensex which rose 24 points to 28,470. Sun Pharma, BHEL and Wipro lead gainers on the Sensex, while Coal India and HDFC slipped a bit in early deals, taking the Advance-Decline Ratio to 18:11 on the Index.
Meanwhile, in the broader market, 1,068 stocks advanced compared with 459 that fell, pointing to bulls retaining control on Dalal Street.
Even as the broader Indices remained flat the action shifted to individual counters with stocks such as Glenmark, Essel Propack, HDFC Bank and Aurobindo Pharma hit fresh high.

And in the volume buzzers corner were Gandhimathi Appliances, JMT Auto and Genus Power.
