  • New York Knicks legend Charles Oakley says Amazon's Jeff Bezos wants to buy the New York Knicks from James Dolan.
  • Oakley made the claim while speaking with Bill Simmons and Jason Concepcion of The Ringer.
  • Bezos is one of the few people with enough money to buy the Knicks without a substantial group of investors following him on the project.

Jeff Bezos might not be done in New York.

While the big plans for Amazon's HQ2 to be built in Long Island City were abruptly called off, New York Knicks legend Charles Oakley believes Bezos still might make a splash in the city with a different kind of investment - buying the Knicks from embattled owner James Dolan.

During the filming of a pilot for The Ringer "Tough Chef with Charles Oakley," the former Knicks big man told Bill Simmons and Jason Concepcion that he believed Bezos wanted to get into New York, and there was no better way to do it than buying the Knicks.

"I heard that Jeff Bezos wants to buy the Knicks," Oakley said. "He was gonna try to do Amazon in Long Island City, and he went to Virginia. So he still wanted to do some real estate in New York. So why not buy the Garden?"

Oakley added that Bezos is one of the few people who have the means of pulling off such a deal, as the purchase would require billions.

"That's someone you can't question," Oakley said of Bezos. "It ain't like he needs to get three or four other investors. He's the investor, himself."

You can watch Oakley's comments below.

Oakley's relationship with current Knicks owner is strained to say the least.

After a scuffle with security at a Knicks game in 2017, Oakley was banned from the stadium by Dolan in a bizarre turn.

Fans have clamored for Dolan to sell the Knicks for years now, with one fan recently being similarly banned from Madison Square Garden for telling Dolan to sell the team to his face.

It would be a sizable purchase, but Bezos is one of the few people on the planet capable of pulling out a checkbook and simply asking what number to write down.
