"Titanic" could have had a happier ending, according to its star Kate Winslet.

Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio are bringing back emotions for "Titanic" fans as they've been caught together during this awards season.

Once again over the weekend, they sat in close proximity during the Screen Actors Guild awards. That got Winslet and Jimmy Kimmel pondering the 1997 movie's tragic outcome - and how it could've been less tragic.

"People were very excited that you were sitting next to, or near, Leonardo DiCaprio at the show," Kimmel pointed out on his late-night show when Winslet stopped by. "Even though, in a way, you let him freeze to death in the water."

In "Titanic," Winslet plays Rose, a 17-year-old aristocrat who falls in love with DiCaprio's Jack, a kind but poor artist aboard the doomed Titanic. In the end, Rose lives while Jack is left in the icy water.

Winslet, though, also believes that Jack didn't have to go down with the ship.

"I agree," she said. "I think he could have fitted on that bit of board," she said referring to the piece of wood Rose is on.

To which Kimmel emphatically added, "There was plenty of room on the raft!"

Winslet says she and DiCaprio still love that people go nuts over their movie couple.

"It's been 20 years, and people still get such a kick out of it," Winslet told Kimmel. "It's really quite endearing. And we do laugh about it. We were giggling about it last night. I was like, my God, can you actually believe that people just get so overwhelmed by the Jack and Rose thing?"

Yes, we can.
