Former Vice President Joe Biden, a 2020 presidential candidate, confirmed Wednesday reports in TMZ and Page Six that his son Hunter has gotten remarried in a secret Los Angeles wedding ceremony.
Biden confirmed to CBS News' Adam Brewster and his sister Valerie Biden to the Delaware News Journal that Hunter has now wed South African-born Melissa Cohen.
Sources familiar with the matter told E! News that Biden and Cohen met in early May, tied the knot just a few weeks later on May 16, and even got matching tattoos.
After separating from his ex-wife of 22 years Kathleen Biden in 2015, Hunter struck up a romantic relationship with Hallie Biden, his former sister-in-law and the widow of his brother Beau Biden, who died from a rare form of brain cancer in 2015.
"Hallie and I are incredibly lucky to have found the love and support we have for each other in such a difficult time, and that's been obvious to the people who love us most," Hunter said in a statement to Page Six at the time."We've been so lucky to have family and friends who have supported us every step of the way."
Even amid Kathleen and Hunter's acrimonious divorce proceedings, Joe Biden and his wife, former Second Lady Jill Biden, supported Hunter and Hallie dating.
"We are all lucky that Hunter and Hallie found each other as they were putting their lives together again after such sadness," the former vice president told Page Six after the outlet broke the news of their relationship in 2017. "They have mine and Jill's full and complete support and we are happy for them."
Hunter has now remarried two years after his divorce from Kathleen was finalized in 2017, and just two months after splitting from Hallie this April, which was first reported by Page Six.
According to Page Six, Kathleen too has gone back on the market and started dating again after a tumultuous past few years with the public spotlight on her painful divorce.
Cohen's father told Page Six that while he had yet to meet his new son-in-law, his daughter "seems very happy," adding, "she's a very special girl. She has lots of poise and she's very present."
