Jobs: 71% jobseekers lie about their educational qualification, 55% lie about previous employment

Are you planning to hire new employees this year? Well, here is a red alert for you: double-check your candidates’ education and previous employment details before extending an offer. Because, chances are that your candidate has forged these details in his/her CV when he walked in for an interview.

According to the recently released First Advantage Background Screening Trends Report: India by First Advantage, a global provider of screening analytics and identity solutions, discrepancies in probable employee’s CV is on the rise. This study, which reveals key macro and micro trends, provides insight for organisations to benchmark their current programs and fine-tune their existing screening practices, alleges that:
  • The discrepancy by Education Level stands at 71% in the Graduate level in comparison to Q3-14 which was at 72%.
  • Discrepancies related to employment was the highest at 55.7% followed by Address Discrepancies at 13% and Education discrepancies at 5.3%. The remaining discrepancies of 26% were related to Criminal, Document Investigation, Database, Reference, etc. [clubbed under Others]. It shows an increase from 23.1% in Q3-14 to 26.0% in Q4-14.
  • Case Level Discrepancy across BFSI Sector was the highest at 38%
  • In Q4-14 - Associate level discrepancy continues to top the graph at 65%. It is followed by Middle Management at 18%, First Level Supervisor at 12% Apprentice/Trainee/Intern at 3% and Senior Management at 2%.
  • Case Level Discrepancy across Industrial sectors like Retail, IT and FMCG rose in comparison to the recent past quarters.
  • Karnataka tops in state-wise discrepancies and leads at 22% followed by Maharashtra at 19%, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu both are at 9% and Uttar Pradesh follow at 7%
  • City-wise Bengaluru leads in Employment and Address related discrepancies & New Delhi in Education related discrepancies.
  • As the awareness is growing, it is also serving as a deterrent for a candidate to fake information and at the same time is encouraging them to be more open with sharing information irrespective of the information being negative or positive.
  • Employers are feeling a lot more confident since they are equipped with more inside information of the candidate whom they are planning to take on board and are also happy to have the option of making choices and deciding who would be more apt for their organisation.
