Did you just lie to your future employer? Fret not, there are many like you!

If you have been thinking that your resume is as perfect as it could be, think again. Results of a recent survey done by JobBuzz.in say that falsifying information, either by oversight or deliberately, is one of the most widespread mistakes that job seekers make in their resumes.

The resume was conducted by JobBuzz.in over 97 employers spanning all major sectors across India.

As per the survey, on an average, recruiters and hiring managers spend less than 5 minutes on one resume. This means that an applicant has very little time in his hand to impress a recruiter. In this case, an unnecessary mistake would be the last thing you would want. Even then, 40 to 60% of resumes have wrong or misleading information, as told by 55% hiring managers in the survey.

Nearly 50% recruiters and hiring managers said that most applicants tend to omit important areas of their skill sets while 42% said most resumes do not use relevant job or profile-related keywords, which makes scanning resumes more difficult and recruiters end up with incorrect assessments.

However, all the employers surveyed agreed that grammatical errors and typos are the most common mistakes that candidates make.

"Job seekers continually fail to understand the significance of a well-crafted resume. Your resume is the first introduction to the employer and represents your presentation clarity and diligence. Poor spelling and grammar is like going to a job interview in your pajamas – it can swiftly get your application rejected," states Vivek Madhukar, COO, Times Business Solutions.

Here are the other common resume mistakes:
· Being text heavy– 40%
· Too vague (with no quantifiable accomplishments or tasks) – 35%
· Neglecting exact dates - 35%
· Stating duties rather than achievements - 33%
· Using very elaborate formatting and styles – 25%
· Information not being properly customized for the role applied – 19%

So the next time you plan to send out your resumes, make sure that you avoid all these mistakes to strengthen your chances of getting the job.
