Jimmie Johnson's 76th career NASCAR win puts him in elite company
Jimmie Johnson picked up his first win of the year pulling away down the stretch at the Atlanta Motor Speedway. While it was not as exciting as the finish at Daytona a week earlier, the win was more significant in the history of the sport.
The win was the 76th of Johnson's career, tying him with Dale Earnhardt Jr. for seventh on the all-time list, and Johnson did it in 167 fewer races.
And Johnson is probably not done. At 40, Jeff Gordon's 93 career wins would seem to be within reach which would put Johnson third in the history of NASCAR. Meanwhile, this is just another reminder that Richard Petty's 200 career wins is probably one of those records in sports that will never be broken.
