Ditching headphone jacks from iPhones similar to ditching DVD drives from MacBooks, says JayBird chief marketing officer

For several months, there have been rumours that Apple may be dropping the universal 3.5mm headphone jack from iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, launching both Bluetooth headphones and headphones with lightning connectors for customers.

As the launch dates of iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus nears, headphone maker JayBird, in an interaction with Forbes, talked about its take on the supposed move from the iPhone maker’s end.

In the interview, JayBird chief marketing officer Rene Oehlerking said, "My personal opinion is that it's absolutely going to happen. It's going to happen next week when they announce it. And I believe this will be seen as very similar to when Apple decided to get rid of the floppy disk or decided to get rid of the CD-ROM or DVD drives in all of their MacBooks. It's going to be that kind of a leap."

He added that the 3.5mm headphone jack was originally launched with Walkman and the CD players, and has been around since then, even though the use of these products has almost zeroed down.

According to him, "there will be some kind of adapter in the iPhone 7 box," which will enable using wired headphones via the lightning port.
