The 2018 Jaguar XJR575.

The Jaguar XJ is a car Business Insider has come to adore.

Even though the current iteration of the XJ has been around for nearly a decade, its head-turning looks remain as fresh as the first time we saw it in 2009.

(Jaguar design director Ian Callum has confirmed to Business Insider that a new XJ is in the works.)

On Monday, Jaguar upped the ante with the fastest and most powerful version of the sedan to date, the XJR575.

The 2018 XJR575 has, you guessed it, 575 horsepower from Jag's trusty 5.0 liter, supercharged V8. That's up 25 horses from the "standard" high-performance XJR.

According to Jaguar, the XJR575 can hit 60 mph in just 4.2 seconds and reach a top speed of 186 mph in just 44 seconds. This represents a solid improvement over the 4.4-second 0-60 mph time and the 174-mph top speed of the XJR.

Inside, customers get the same cosseting luxury one would expect from Jaguar's flagship sedan, but with a few embellishments to remind them of the cars performance prowess.

Tech features include a 10-inch touch screen running Jaguar's Touch Pro Infotainment system, 4G wi-fi connectivity, and a host of intelligent driver assistance systems.

"This is a performance vehicle, but that doesn't mean we have had to cut any corners when it comes to comfort or design," Callum said in a statement. "Jaguar is the standard bearer for interior refinement and the XJR575 is no different. It can go very quickly, but it does so with the serene comfort customers expect from a Jaguar sedan. That makes this a very special car indeed."

The XJR575 comes on the heels of Jag's muscle-bound 592 horsepower XE SV Project 8 sedan which was introduced in May. In addition, Jaguar unveiled its new E-PACE compact SUV in London this month. The Land Rover derived E-PACE will join the company's award-winning F-PACE early next year.

As for the XJR575, Jaguar will announce official pricing later this year.
