nest ceo tony fadell interview

Nest CEO Tony Fadell

Nest, the home automation owned by Google, has sent out invites for a media event on June 17.

The invite provides no details, and says simply "Please join us for a Nest press conference" to be held at San Francisco's Terra Gallery.

There's been recent speculation that Nest is working on a home audio product, based on job ads it posted for something called "Nest Audio."

This would be more likely to be something like Amazon Echo than an in-home sound system like Sonos.

The company, which describes its mission as re-inventing "unloved products in your home," has plenty of room to expand.

Nest CEO Tony Fadell, a former Apple employee credited with making the iPod a hit, has given some hints about potential areas of interest. During an interview at the Code conference in May 2014, Fadell flagged security and health as areas of interest (weeks later Nest announced that it had acquired Dropcam).

"I think there are a lot of unloved categories in the home," Fadell said.

When an audience member at the event asked about areas such as water-conservation, high-tech toilets and safety features for seniors, Fadell responded that they were all "very interesting."

Here's a copy of the invite. We'll be at the event on June 17 to report on whatever they announce.
