It looks like Apple had a killer holiday season despite gloomy forecasts for iPhone sales

Despite all the negative iPhone sales forecasts over the past month, Apple seems to have had a strong holiday shopping season, according to mobile analytics firm Flurry.

Based on Flurry's data, charted for us by Statista, Apple owned 49.1% of all new device activations worldwide during the week of December 19 to December 25, the prime holiday week when sales numbers often peak for gadget makers.

That's more than double the market share by Samsung, who came in at second, showing Apple's continued dominance in holiday sales, a segment it topped last year with a 51.3% share, as well.

The upbeat report comes amid a series of gloomy analyst predictions for iPhone sales this year. Analysts from Morgan Stanley, Credit Suisse, and Stifel have all published reports predicting a serious drop in iPhone sales in 2016, which would be the first sales decline ever for the iPhone.
