His tweet was in response to a Twitter thread by a civil rights lawyer who said that Austin politicians gave the billionaire over $60 million in subsidies to move the factory to Texas, which was reported by The Verge in July 2020.
It comes after construction filings with Texas authorities in November showed that Tesla would spend more than $1 billion on the project, according to Reuters and Electrek.
Tesla said in the November filings, reported by Reuters, that the Texas factory would create around 10,000 jobs — half the amount that Musk tweeted on Thursday. Most of the jobs would be low-skilled, per Reuters.
Musk's firm is expected to receive almost $65 million in local tax rebates for the Gigafactory, per the filings, cited by Reuters.
Tesla is planning for its Cybertruck, Semi truck, and Model 3 and Y to be produced at the 5 million-square-foot Gigafactory.
