  • A warning to Russian soldiers outside the facility can be heard on loudspeakers in the video.

A warning directed at Russian soldiers outside the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in Ukraine as it was being captured can be heard in a video captured from inside the facility, The New York Times reported.

The Times obtained the video from a source with ties to the local government and verified it using archival videos and photographs of the plant.

A voice can be heard saying in Russian: "Stop firing at the nuclear facility. Immediately stop firing. You are endangering the safety of the entire world. The operation of a crucial part of Zaporizhzhia's plant could be damaged. We will not be able to restore it."

According to the Times, a clock in the video shows the approximate time of the attack.

The seized nuclear plant is the largest in Europe.

Oleksandr Starukh, head of the area's regional military administration, confirmed that a fire had broken out at the plant amid intense fighting.

Starukh also said that the nuclear safety of the plan was secured. The plant's spokesperson Andriy Tuz also said no radiation had spilled out from the plant.
