Two pilots had a close shave while flying a fighter jet at a Michigan air show on Sunday.
The MiG-23, a Soviet-era fighter jet, was performing aerial maneuvers at the Thunder Over Michigan Air Show on Sunday afternoon before it crashed, per the Detroit Free Press. The plane's two pilots managed to eject themselves successfully before the aircraft went down.
Some spectators viewing the demonstration uploaded photos and videos of the incident to Facebook and Twitter. In one video, an explosion was seen after the jet flew past. Two objects that appeared to be parachutes opened up in the sky after the explosion, and were filmed floating toward the ground.
"Oh my god!" a spectator could be heard yelling in another video, as the plane appeared to plummet toward the ground.
The Wayne County Airport Authority said in a statement on Sunday that the fighter jet had "crashed into the parking lot at the Waverly on the Lake Apartments in Belleville." The airport authority said the plane had "struck unoccupied vehicles in the apartment complex's parking lot."
"The pilot and the backseater successfully ejected from the aircraft before the crash. While it did not appear they sustained any injuries, first responders transported the pair to a nearby hospital as a precaution," the statement said.
"No one at the apartment complex nor the air show was injured," the statement continued, adding that the Federal Aviation Administration was investigating the crash.
Representatives for the Wayne County Airport Authority and the Federal Aviation Administration did not immediately respond to requests for comment from Insider sent outside regular business hours.
