The stunning news of Tucker Carlson's departure from Fox News, effective immediately, was reported live on Fox News on Monday.
The announcement about the network's biggest star came less than a week after Fox settled a defamation suit with Dominion Voting Systems for $787.5 million over false on-air claims about vote-rigging in the 2020 presidential election.
"We have some news from within our Fox family," Fox host Harris Faulker told viewers. "Fox News Media and Tucker Carlson have mutually agreed to part ways."

"Tucker's last show," Faulker said — she paused, arching one eyebrow — "was this past Friday."
Going forward, Fox News Tonight will air live in its primetime 8pm spot with "rotating Fox News personalities" until a new host is named, Faulker said.
"We want to thank Tucker Carlson for his service to the network, as a host and, prior to that, as a long-term contributor," Faulker said.
"Tucker Carlson Tonight" debuted in 2016, and the show made Carlson one of Fox's top-rated hosts. He used the prime-time slot to advance the racist "replacement theory" and push xenophobic and misogynistic tropes, while an expansive New York Times investigation found that Carlson had built a vast audience by stoking "white fear."
Carlson couldn't be immediately reached for comment. In a statement, Fox said: "Fox News Media and Tucker Carlson have agreed to part ways. We thank him for his service to the network as a host and prior to that as a contributor."
