Video shows Russian workers tearing up highways to block Prigozhin's advance on Moscow

Videos shared on social media appear to show Russian workers using construction equipment to tear up portions of the highway as Wagner Group fighters continue their march toward Moscow.

Samuel Bendett, an analyst for the Center for Naval Analyses, a nonprofit military research group, said one video shows people using construction equipment to damage a highway between Lipetsk and Moscow.

Another photo posted to a Russian Telegram channel shows a photo of what appears to be a highway with a deep trench dug across the entire road.

It's unclear who is operating the construction equipment seen in the images.

Wagner's forces have so far faced limited resistance as they caravan toward Moscow. Yevgeny Prigozhin, Wagner's leader and a former Putin ally, said his troops captured a military headquarters in Rostov-on-Don "without firing a single shot."

Prigozhin launched his so-called "march for justice" on Friday after claiming, without hard evidence, that Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu ordered an air strike on Wagner forces in Ukraine. He said that Wagner had broad support among the people of Russia, according to a translation of statements he made on Telegram.

In a speech on Saturday, Putin — without naming Prigozhin — said those responsible for the mutiny were guilty of "high treason."

Russian security forces set up traffic checkpoints with armed guards on Russia's M4 highway, which leads to Moscow, on Saturday, according to Reuters.

Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin announced that he had ordered Monday a "non-working day" in a Telegram message on Saturday. Sobyanin asked residents, with the exception of security services and other authorities, to refrain from moving around the city.
