  • A Russian fighter jet accidentally dropped a bomb on its own city late Thursday.
  • The blast from the weapon erupted in the city of Belgorod, sending cars flying in the air.

A Russian warplane accidentally dropped a bomb in its own city near the Ukrainian border late Thursday, causing a massive blast that sent cars flying into the air and reportedly injuring three people.

Dramatic video footage shows the moments the explosion erupted in Belgorod after a Russian Su-34 aircraft dropped the weapon.

Cars were driving by on a city street as the blast went off, catapulting vehicles in the air and leaving a crater with a 65-foot radius in the ground.

The Russian state-owned TASS news agency reported that the incident unfolded "due to an abnormal lift-off of air munitions during the flight of a Su-34 aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces."

Belgorod region governor Vyacheslav Gladkov declared a state of emergency and said three people had been injured in the explosion and, several cars and apartment buildings were left damaged, Reuters reported.

"Thank God there are no dead," Gladkov said in a statement on Telegram, the news outlet reported.
