US Olympic swimmer Klete Keller pleaded guilty on Wednesday to a felony charge connected to the January 6 Capitol riot, according to multiple reports.
The five-time Olympic medalist appeared in court on Wednesday to enter his guilty plea of obstruction of an official proceeding, local news station WUSA reported, which is a felony that carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
A plea with the government includes an agreement for 38-year-old Keller to cooperate with investigators and the Department of Justice in return will drop the other six charges he faces, the report said, and that he faces a recommended prison sentence of 15-21 months.
Keller admitted to being inside the Capitol during the riot, and later destroying a phone he used and discarding an Olympic jacket he was wearing, according to POLITICO reporter Josh Gerstein.
Keller was charged in January and indicted in February with seven charges related to the Capitol riot, the report said. He was identified because of his Team USA jacket with a US Olympic Team patch on it.
Washington, DC, District Court Judge Richard Leon didn't set a date yet for Keller's sentencing and his next court date is scheduled for December 16, USA Today reported.
