What happened today:
Epstein's victims get justice. The head of a fund for Jeffrey Epstein's victims says $125 million was awarded to 150 claimants. In a statement, the Epstein Victims' Compensation Fund said 92% of eligible claimants accepted their compensation offers. Jordana Feldman announced the payouts one day before the second anniversary of Epstein's death.
More vaccination mandates. Members of the US military will be required to be vaccinated against COVID-19 by September 15, according to a memo obtained by the Associated Press. "I will not hesitate to act sooner or recommend a different course to the President if l feel the need to do so," Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said.
California's Dixie Fire rages on. The single largest wildfire in California's history approached 500,000 acres as of Monday morning, according to CAL FIRE. The wildfire has been burning for 26 days and is just 21% contained. One firefighter said flames were "raining out of the sky." No deaths have been recorded.
Quentin Tarantino never forgets. The Hollywood director told the podcast "The Moment" that he stuck to his vow never to give his mom a "penny" of his fortune after she belittled his writing as a child. "I helped her out with a jam with the IRS. But no house. No Cadillac, no house," Tarantino said.
