Instagram, WhatsApp, and Facebook Messenger are working after a 'technical issue' caused a brief outage across Facebook's suite of apps

  • WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook Messenger went down for more than an hour on Friday.
  • DownDetector reported crashes beginning around 1:30 p.m.
  • Facebook resolved a "technical issue" that caused the issues, a spokesperson told Insider.

Instagram, WhatsApp, and Facebook Messenger apps are back up after being down for about an hour Friday.

"Earlier today, a technical issue caused people to have trouble accessing some Facebook services," a Facebook spokesperson told Insider. "We resolved this issue for everyone, and we apologize for any inconvenience."

The Facebook-owned apps and its Messenger service appeared to go down around 1:30 p.m. ET, according to reports on DownDetector. Facebook's desktop site appeared to be working.

Facebook Gaming posted a statement to its followers on Twitter, alerting users that gaming streams were also affected in the outage.

The outage appeared to impact users in numerous countries, including Mexico and India, according to comments on DownDetector.
