What's going on today:

  • Five experts who will vote on the fate of Johnson & Johnson's COVID-19 vaccine believe we should end the pause. But the advisors may ask for the shot to come with a warning for women.
  • The Pentagon announced it's sending air assets to aid in the search for a missing Indonesian naval submarine carrying 53 crew members. Authorities worry that time is running out - it's believed the vessel's oxygen supply will likely run out by Saturday.
  • Marjorie Taylor Greene really wants to debate Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez on the Green New Deal - just as soon as she's read it. In the meantime, Greene has ratcheted up the trash talk, saying that if AOC doesn't want to debate her it's because she's "a scared little girl that is pretty stupid."
  • A triple-mutant COVID variant has been discovered in India that could be more deadly and vaccine-resistant than other strains of the virus. Researchers warn that it's an "immune escape variant," which means that people who have already had COVID can be reinfected with this variant. This comes as the country continues to struggle with an ever-worsening COVID second wave.
  • It's possible to turn on Tesla Autopilot with nobody behind the wheel, Consumer Reports showed. This comes after a fatal Tesla crash where authorities said nobody was driving.
  • Elon Musk says travel to Mars is for everybody - not just the extremely rich. But one major caveat to consider: "A bunch of people will probably die" early in the exploration, he warns. Thanks for the heads up.

That's all for now. See you Monday.
