Four people died in New York City on Wednesday night after a heavy storm pelted the region. All four perished in the basements of their homes; three of the victims were found in Queens, while another was found in Brooklyn, reported the New York Post, quoting sources.

There were reports that a building partially collapsed at 90-11 183rd St and the New York Fire Department (FDNY) were using divers to search for survivors in the building's flooded basement.

Two people - a 22-year-old man and a 45-year-old woman - were found dead in the basement of the building, reported the Post, adding the victims were "unconscious and unresponsive," when they were found. The FDNY told Insider that a side wall of the building had collapsed.

It is unclear if others were trapped in the building.

Elsewhere, in Cypress Hills, a 66-year-old man was found dead in his basement at around 12:30 a.m, the Post reported.

A fourth person - a woman in her 40s - was found dead in her Grand Central Parkway apartment in Rego, Queens, around 1 a.m, CBS News reported.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul declared a state of emergency in New York Wednesday evening.
