- In new court documents, prosecutors said he had a history of making violent and "racist" threats.
Pentagon leak suspect Jack Teixeira had a stash of guns in his army-themed bedroom and talked about mass shootings, legal documents show.
Teixeira, a 21-year-old Massachusetts Air National Guard member, was arrested earlier this month in connection with the leak of more than 100 top-secret military documents about the war in Ukraine and other national security issues.
An 18-page court filing submitted by federal prosecutors on Wednesday said that Teixeira had a gun locker two feet from his bed filled with an "arsenal" of weapons.
"In the gun locker were multiple weapons, including handguns, bolt-action rifles, shotguns, an AK-style high-capacity weapon, and a gas mask," the prosecutors said.
"FBI special agents also found ammunition and tactical pouches on his dresser and what appeared to be a silencer-style accessory in his desk drawer," they added.
When agents searched the house, they also found a "military-style helmet with a mounting bracket" in a dumpster outside, the documents said.
Photos released alongside the documents appear to show multiple guns lying around Teixeira's room. He also appears to have camo wallpaper and a large camo net hanging over his bed.
Other photos show a target shooting poster hanging on one wall with visible bullet holes in it as well as a sketch of a truck with weapons strapped to the top of it.
Teixeira lived with his mother and stepfather in North Dighton, Massachusetts.
The 21-year-old was obsessed with weapons and had a history of making violent and "racist" threats, the documents said, citing accounts of former classmates and people he spoke to on the online messaging platform Discord. In the Discord posts spanning from 2022-2023, Teixeira discussed wanting to kill a "ton of people" as a way of "culling the weak-minded," the document said.
He also told one Discord user that he was tempted to turn a minivan into an "assassination van" and sought advice about what type of rifle would be easy to operate from the back of an SUV, prosecutors added.
Prosecutors are arguing that Teixeira should remain in jail before the trial because he may still have access to classified material and could cause "extraordinary" damage to national security.
He also poses a "serious flight risk" and faces 25 years in prison, they added.
Some of the documents Teixeira is accused of leaking included details about Russia's spy agencies' activities, details about aid to Ukraine, and information about casualties on both sides.Teixeira joined the Air National Guard in September 2019 and in 2021 was given "Top Secret" security clearance, which gave him access to the classified documents leaked online, according to a criminal complaint.
At the time of writing, Teixeira's lawyers have not yet commented on the case. They did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment.
