New York state announced that it will end its wide-ranging mask mandate for vaccinated people beginning Wednesday.

"Unvaccinated people should continue to wear a mask," New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said in a tweet announcing the change on Monday.

Masks will still be required on public transit, in schools, and in "some communal settings," Cuomo said. Private businesses are still allowed to require masks if they decide to do so, he said.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention last week said vaccinated people no longer needed to wear masks in most indoor or outdoor settings.

The agency released a chart to show who is still required to wear a mask and in what settings. See Insider's interactive version of the latest guidance here.
