Turkey and Syria earthquake- Feb 6, 2022

In an unfortunate turn of events, a magnitude 7.8 earthquake killed more than 5000 people in Turkey and Syria.

Haiti earthquake- Jan 12, 2010

In Haiti, according to the government, from 2,20,000 to 3,16,000 people were killed by a magnitude of 7.0. Also, at least 52 aftershocks were recorded of 4.5 or greater magnitude.

Indonesia earthquake- Dec 26, 2004

Indonesia witnessed an Indian Ocean earthquake with a 9.1-9.3 magnitude and Tsunami with 100 ft high waves that killed around 2,27,898 people.

Sichuan in China earthquake- May 12, 2008

The Sichuan in China earthquake is also known as the Great Sichuan earthquake or the Wenchuan earthquake. The earthquake occurred at a magnitude of 7.9, resulting in over 87,500 deaths. Also, strong aftershocks were felt with a magnitude of 6 for several months, causing more casualties. It was the second deadliest earthquake in China after the Tangshan earthquake in 1976, which killed around 2,42,000 people.

Kashmir earthquake- Oct 8, 2005

The earthquake hit Kashmir with certain sections of Pakistan with a magnitude of 7.6. Due to the earthquake, over 80,000 people died.

Iran earthquake- Dec 26, 2003

The Bam earthquake hit the southeastern region of Iran with a magnitude of 6.6, resulting in more than 34,000 deaths.

Japan earthquake- March 11, 2011

Japan witnessed a TSunami and an earthquake of 9.0-9.1 that killed more than 20,000 people. It is also called the Great East Japan Earthquake.

Gujarat earthquake- Jan 26, 2001

This 2001 Gujarat earthquake is also known as the Bhuj earthquake. It took the lives of around 20,000 people. The 7.6 magnitudes caused injury to 1,67,000 people and destroyed nearly 3,40,000 buildings.

Nepal earthquake- April 25, 2015

In Nepal, more than 8,900 people were killed, and more than 21,952 were injured due to an earthquake of 7.8-8.1 magnitude.

Java Island Indonesia earthquake- May 26, 2006

The Yogyakarta earthquake, also known as the Bantul earthquake, affected Yogyakarta, Java, Indonesia. Around 6000 people died when a magnitude 6.3 quake hit the island of Java, Indonesia.

A magnitude 7.5 earthquake and Tsunami hit Indonesia in September 2018. The combined effects of the earthquake and tsunami led to around 4,340 deaths.
