On Instagram Live he told his followers that he tested positive after several days of feeling feverish and exhausted.
"We immediately threw the kitchen sink at it," he said in the video. "Monoclonal antibodies, ivermectin, Z-Pak, prednisone." He said that after three days he felt rejuvenated.
One of those drugs, ivermectin, is an antiparasitic drug used mostly to deworm horses and other large animals. Versions of it have been approved to treat some conditions in humans including head lice, but the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in August issued an advisory against using it to treat COVID-19. The dewormer is not a proven cure for COVID-19 and can be toxic to humans in large doses.
Rogan, who has millions of podcast followers, has attracted scrutiny for pushing COVID-19 misinformation this year. In April he responded to backlash for his comments doubting whether healthy people in their 20s would benefit from vaccination, saying, "I'm not a doctor."
It's unclear whether Rogan is vaccinated against COVID-19.
Spotify, which has a roughly $100 million exclusive deal with Rogan, could not immediately be reached for comment.
