The remains of 761 children have been found at the site of a former boarding school for Indigenous children in Canada, Indigenous groups said Thursday, according to The New York Times.

The discovery was made by the Cowessess First Nation at the site of the former Marieval Indian Residential School in Saskatchewan, The Times and CBC reported.

The Cowessess First Nation said on Wednesday that it had found hundreds of unmarked graves, but did not give an exact figure at the time.

The finding comes after the remains of 215 children were found at another former school for Indigenous students near Kamloops, British Columbia, in May.

Both those schools were part of a system that took in Indigenous children and forbade them from speaking their native languages, The Times reported.
