It goes without saying that 2020 was a tough year, world over. Things like trust and well-being took centre stage and people’s livelihoods were affected by lockdowns, lack of transportation and, in a lot of cases, unemployment.
“One possible explanation is that people see COVID-19 as a common, outside threat affecting everybody and that this has generated a greater sense of solidarity and fellow-feeling,” said Canadian economist John Helliwell in a statement explaining why the ranking has not changed drastically as compared to last year.
