Finland has topped the charts when it comes to being the happiest country in the world again. In fact, the top 10 happiest countries in the world are mostly from northern Europe. The only non-European nations, which managed to crack the top 10 were New Zealand and Israel.
It goes without saying that 2020 was a tough year, world over. Things like trust and well-being took centre stage and people’s livelihoods were affected by lockdowns, lack of transportation and, in a lot of cases, unemployment.
“One possible explanation is that people see COVID-19 as a common, outside threat affecting everybody and that this has generated a greater sense of solidarity and fellow-feeling,” said Canadian economist
John Helliwell in a statement explaining why the ranking has not changed drastically as compared to last year.
