After almost five weeks of declining COVID cases, the global tally has once again started spiking, mainly in three regions — Asia, Africa, and Europe — said the World Health Organization (WHO) in its latest weekly update.
Tedros Adhanom, WHO’s director-general, said in a media briefing, “Despite reduced testing the global cases are spiking again and this means that the cases we are seeing are just the tip of the iceberg."
He further added, "Continued local outbreaks and surges are to be expected, particularly in areas where measures to prevent transmission have been lifted."

reports, the global COVID-19 cases rose by 8% last week as compared to the week before that. However, the number of deaths continued to decline by 17% last week as compared to a week before.
