Sports betting giant DraftKings reminded us on Monday that major companies continue to do very stupid things on the solemn anniversary.

The site briefly offered bettors a parlay, a wager tied to multiple outcomes, based on three New York teams playing Monday night. Major League Baseball's New York Yankees and Mets are both in action on Monday — as are the New York Jets which will kick off the season with new Quarterback Aaron Rodgers against the Buffalo Bills.

"We sincerely apologize for the featured parlay that was shared briefly in commemoration of 9/11," the company said in a statement posted on Twitter. "We respect the significance of this day for our country and especially for the families of those who were directly affected."

Few things might be more American than massively missing the mark by trying to make a buck on the anniversary of the terrorist attacks that rocked the nation. In 2016, Papa John's said it was a complete lapse in judgment when an Ohio location offered pizzas for $9.11 as part of a "Remembrance Special."

The Washington Post collected a whole list of offenders large and small in 2016, including a Florida Walmart that arranged cases of Coca-Cola products in the shape of the Twin Towers. Even Build-a-Bear Workshop, where customers can customize their favorite stuffed bear and other animals, stepped in it when they once tweeted out an image of a camouflage-print teddy bear wearing dog tags alongside the company's logo and the words "We will never forget," as The Los Angeles Times reported in 2014.

DraftKings is one of the largest players in the ever-expanding sports betting marketplace that Bank of America estimates could bring $9.5 billion this year.
