Jason Alexander, who was married to Britney Spears for 55 hours in 2004, has been charged with felony stalking after entering her residence without permission hours before her wedding.

Spears and her new husband, Sam Asghari, have also secured a restraining order against Jason Allen Alexander.

Alexander was arrested for an out-of-county warrant when he was found at the couple's estate uninvited prior to the wedding, per the Ventura County Sheriff's Department.

He was also charged with misdemeanor counts of battery, vandalism, and trespassing, according to court documents.

A knife was found in his possession though it was never "brandished," Ventura law enforcement previously told Insider.

"He has now been charged by the District Attorney's Office with felony stalking, in addition to the other charges, and he remains incarcerated," Mathew Rosengart, Spears' attorney, told Insider in an emailed statement.

"We are thankful to the Ventura County Sheriff's office and District Attorney's Office including deputy district attorney Erin Meister, for their prompt and good work," he added. "This should send a strong message to Mr. Alexander and anybody working with him or who otherwise engages in similar misconduct."

Spears and Asghari wed at their home in Thousand Oaks, California, on Thursday, after a nearly eight-month-long engagement. The couple has been together for approximately five years.

Spears' parents and sister, Jamie Lynne, did not attend. Her sons from a previous marriage with Kevin Federline also did not attend.

Asghari's publicist declined Insider's request for comment. Alexander's public defense attorney did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment.
