The Biden administration is said to be preparing to announce more than $700 million in additional military assistance to Ukraine.

Two unnamed US officials told Reuters the aid was expected to total $750 million and be announced as soon as Wednesday. They said the aid would consist of military equipment from US stockpiles, bypassing the need for additional congressional authorization.

One source told Reuters the aid was likely to include heavy ground artillery systems. It could more broadly include a range of new military equipment that Ukraine has been requesting, including helicopters and armored vehicles, The Washington Post reported, though both the Post's and Reuters' sources said the specifics of the package hadn't been finalized.

The State Department said last week that the US had provided more than $2.4 billion in military assistance to Ukraine during Joe Biden's presidency, including $1.7 billion since Russia invaded Ukraine in late February.

Assistance has included anti-tank missiles that have inflicted heavy losses on Russian forces.
