A year after the Ever Given got stuck in the Suez Canal, another massive ship, the Ever Forward, has run aground in Chesapeake Bay

Nearly a year after the Ever Given cargo ship clogged up the Suez Canal, another Evergreen Marine Corp ship has become stuck — this time in Chesapeake Bay.

Bloomberg reported that the ship, named Ever Forward, got stuck after moving off from the port of Baltimore on Sunday night. The ship had been bound for Norfolk, Virginia, at the time.

The US Coast Guard said it was not aware of what caused the ship to run aground but noted that no injuries or harm to the vessel had been reported, per CBS Baltimore. The ship is now in around 25 feet of water but is not obstructing the channel.

The 1,096-foot Ever Forward is a Hong Kong-flagged vessel. Like the 1,312-foot-long Ever Given, it also belongs to Evergreen Marine Corp. At press time, the ship's navigation status on the ship-tracking website Vessel Finder was marked as "aground," with its location still listed as being around several miles out from Baltimore's port.

According to reporting from the Baltimore Sun, the coast guard does not currently have a timeline on when the ship will be re-floated.

"Everything like this is kind of its own beast," Steven Lehmann, a coast guard petty officer, told the outlet.

Ships in the area have been asked to reduce their speed around the stranded Ever Forward, per the Baltimore Sun.

The US Coast Guard did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Insider.

The Ever Forward running aground took place close to a year after the Ever Given became stuck in the Suez Canal on March 23. The incident threw the global supply chain into chaos, with the Ever Given causing a logjam of more than 400 ships.

The blockage also led to some vessels abandoning the Suez Canal route entirely and taking a huge detour around the southern tip of Africa.

It took almost a week of dredging and digging to get the massive Ever Given unstuck. The incident prompted the Egyptian authorities to seize the Ever Given on April 13, 2021, and hold it for months.

The Ever Given finally arrived in Rotterdam on July 29 with more than 20,000 containers on board — 106 days after it first got lodged in the waterway.

The Ever Given has managed to make it through the Suez Canal on subsequent occasions without becoming stuck.
