A video shows a gunfight taking place between the Gaza border and Ashdod in Israel, believed to have taken place on Sunday in the second day of fighting.

The video, which has been verified by the BBC, is filmed from a car by the Route 4 highway and appears to show Israeli soldiers in uniforms and helmets engaged in a firefight.

Constant gunshots can be heard, as the men in the car filming the video lie low in their vehicle.

There appear to be over a dozen soldiers involved in the firefight, and the militants they are fighting do not appear to be visible.

BBC News said they verified the location of the footage by reviewing satellite imagery and said that the weather matched this morning's.

The Israeli military said on Sunday that fighting was still ongoing in eight locations in southern Israel after Hamas launched an unprecedented multi-front attack on Saturday, per the BBC.

The surprise attack involved thousands of rockets being fired into Israel from Gaza and Hamas militants entering Israel by land, sea, and air.

Videos circulating on social media appeared to show Hamas gunmen shooting in the streets.

The estimated death toll is constantly growing, with the latest reports from Israeli TV channels saying it has passed 600, per the BBC.

Israel has bombarded Gaza in response, killing at least 313 people, Palestinian health ministry officials said.
