A Russian submarine commander was shot dead while on a morning run in Russia, and while Ukrainian intelligence isn't taking credit for the killing, they shared a shocking amount of details about his death.

On Monday, Russian state-run media TASS confirmed the death of Stanislav Rzhitsky.

Rzhitsky — a 42-year-old former commander of a Black Sea Fleet submarine — was shot dead in the back while out on a run in Krasnodar, according to initial investigations and a report from a Russian federal lawmaker.

TASS said there'll be investigations into the death, with authorities looking into the motive and possible assailants.

But it seems that Ukrainian intelligence is already ahead of them.

Shortly after the shooting was confirmed by news outlets, Ukraine's Defense Intelligence wrote a lengthy post on Telegram featuring various details of the incident.

According to translations from Kyiv Post, Ukrainian intelligence knew Rzhitsky had "jogged in the Krasnodar Park of Culture and Recreation," and that "Around six in the morning, seven shots were fired at him from a Makarov pistol. As a result of gunshot wounds, Rzytsky died on the spot."

They even knew the weather at the time of the attack: "Due to heavy rain, the park was deserted, so there are no witnesses who could provide details or identify the attacker."

While the details are certainly eye-catching, some may have been public knowledge. Rzhitsky apparently had a profile under his full name on Strava, an app for runners and cyclists to share their routes, distances, and paces.

The account was very active on Strava, with the most recent run posted on July 4 showing a path into the same area as the shooting on Monday morning. It's unclear if the assailant knew about Rzhitsky's Strava account or whether it was used in the killing.

While Ukrainian intelligence didn't immediately take responsibility for Rzhitsky's death, the head of Ukraine's military intelligence service has previously said that his assassins had been successfully targeting pro-Russian war propagandists inside Russia's borders away from the frontlines.
