A Russian diplomat was found dead outside his country's embassy in Berlin last month, German news outlet Der Spiegel reported on Friday.

Police had discovered a 35-year-old man's body on the sidewalk outside the embassy on October 19, after he appeared to have fallen from an upper floor of the building, the report said.

It's not clear how or why the man fell.

For two years, the man had embassy accreditations as a secretary, despite being viewed by German authorities as a member of Russia's FSB security service, Der Spiegel reported.

Netherlands-based investigative outlet Bellingcat reported that the man was the son of a high-ranking FSB official.

The FSB has been linked to assassinations and attacks on Russian opposition worldwide, including the poisoning of Putin critic Alexei Navalny, according to the BBC.

Navalny was poisoned last summer with a nerve agent and almost died before being taken to Germany for treatment.

He is currently being imprisoned in Russia.
