  • Lil Nas X released a satan-themed shoe alongside his new song, "MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name)."
  • A host on "Fox & Friends" was corrected by the station's meteorologist for incorrectly saying that Nike made the shoe.
  • Nike filed a lawsuit on Monday against MSCHF, the company that sold the modified Air Max 97's.

A Fox News weatherman corrected host Pete Hegseth for misconstruing the origins of rapper Lil Nas X's satan-themed shoes.

During a segment on Sunday's episode of "Fox & Friends," Hegseth claimed the shoes, which feature a pentagram and a drop of human blood, were created and sold by Nike.

"So you can't have the Betsy Ross flag but you can have Nike-made Satan shoes," Hegseth said, "that's a real thing."

The host was referring to a controversy in 2019 in which the shoe company decided to pull a design featuring an American flag that former NFL player and Nike campaign face Colin Kaepernick said was offensive. Insider previously reported that the decision sparked outrage particularly among conservatives, who dismissed Kaepernick's concerns over the flag's historical links to the era of slavery in American history and has been since embraced by white supremacists.

Hegseth also pointed out that the drop is set to include 666 individually number shoes before Fox's Meteorologist, Adam Klotz, appeared on the screen.

"I was going to dodge this," Klotz said. "They're not really Nike-made shoes. There's a middle-man who bought Nike shoes and turned them into this... I'm positive about that."

Lil Nas announced the limited edition shoe following the debut of his new music video and song, "MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name)." The shoe was sold by MSCHF, a novelty merchandise company that customized Nike Air Max 97 shoes to include a pentagram, the inscription "Luke 10:18," and one drop of human blood.

Nike filed a lawsuit against MSCHF over the shoes on Monday for trademark infringement.

"Nike files this lawsuit to maintain control of its brand, to protect its intellectual property, and to clear the confusion and dilution in the marketplace by setting the record straight - Nike has not and does not approve or authorize MSCHF's customized Satan Shoes," the suit said.

Montero is the first name of Lil Nas X, who released the song alongside a note to his younger self affirming that being openly gay will help "open doors for many other queer people to simply exist."

The video accompanying the song shows Lil Nas X acting out various biblical stories and ends with him pole dancing into hell before giving a lapdance and killing satan.

A representative from Fox News did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment.
