Two Fox News journalists — cameraman Pierre Zakrzewski and Ukrainian journalist Oleksandra Kuvshynova — were killed on Monday after their car was hit by gunfire outside of Kyiv, the network confirmed in a statement shared with Insider.
Earlier on Tuesday, the network shared that just Zakrzewski had been killed. A later statement confirmed that the network was waiting to deliver the news out of respect for Kuvshynova's family.
Zakrzewski and Kuvshynova were with Fox News journalist Benjamin Hall, who was also injured in the attack.
The earlier statement, from Fox CEO Suzanne Scott, said the group was newsgathering when their "vehicle was struck by incoming fire."
"Today is a heartbreaking day for FOX News Media and for all journalists risking their lives to deliver the news," Scott said in the statement."
"We extend our deepest condolences to Pierre's wife Michelle and family — please keep them all in your prayers," Scott wrote in the statement.
She added that Zakrzewski was "widely popular — everyone in the media industry who has covered a foreign story knew and respected Pierre."
In the new statement, Scott said of Kuvshynova: "Her dream was to connect people around the world and tell their stories and she fulfilled that through her journalism."
"[Kuvshynova] was incredibly talented and spent weeks working directly with our entire team there, operating around the clock to make sure the world knew what was happening in her country," Scott said.
Fox News anchor John Roberts paid tribute to Zakrzewski on Tuesday.
"He was an absolute treasure," Roberts said on Twitter. "Sending our most heartfelt prayers to Pierre's wife and family."
Other tributes from Fox News reporters poured in as the news of Zakrzewski and Kuvshynova's deaths broke.
"In yesterday's attack near Kyiv, we have lost a beautiful brave woman," said Fox News producer Yonat Friling. "she was 24 years old. She worked with our team for the past month and did a brilliant job."
Trey Yingst, a Fox News Foreign Correspondent, called Kuvshynova "talented, well-sourced and witty."
Fox News Pentagon Reporter Lucas Tomlinson chose to share Zakrzewski's words from their last correspondence on Twitter.
"I will effort to get as much of this on TV to help Ukrainians in every way possible," it said. "Keep Smiling."
