A 3-year-old Ukraine boy who fled Russian bombing in Kharkiv was wounded in a rare strike over 500 miles away in Lviv: officials

• Seven people were killed on Monday in a Russian missile strike on the western Ukraine city of Lviv.
• A three-year-old boy was among the 11 people injured, losing part of his finger in the attack.

A 3-year-old boy is among nearly a dozen civilians who were injured in a Russian missile strike on the western Ukrainian city of Lviv that killed seven others, officials said on Monday.

Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi posted a video to Twitter showing Artem — who he said traveled hundreds of miles to Lviv with his mother to flee Russian bombings in Kharkiv — receiving medical attention on his hand.

Doctors could be seen in the video operating on Artem's left hand and then wrapping it with tape as a few people watched by his side.

Iuliia Mendel, a former spokesperson of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, said on Twitter that Artem lost part of his finger in the attack.

Ukraine's communications center said that three Russian missiles struck military infrastructure in Lviv on Monday and a fourth hit a tire fitting shop in the city.

Sadovyi said as of Monday afternoon that seven civilians were dead and 11 others were injured in the attack.

"The Russians continue barbarically attacking Ukrainian cities from the air, cynically declaring to the whole world their 'right' to… kill Ukrainians," Zelenskyy's top advisor Mykhailo Podolyak tweeted.

Lviv, a city with a pre-war population of over 720,000 that is located around 50 miles from the Polish border, has so far been a hub for Ukrainians fleeing Russia's ongoing war in other parts of the country.

While Lviv and the rest of western Ukraine have only been the targets of occasional Russian strikes throughout the nearly two-month war, dozens of people were killed in a Russian strike on a Ukrainian military base near the city last month.

"There are no safe cities in [Ukraine] anymore," Mendel tweeted on Monday. "The western city of Lviv now had its civilian objects under attack."

The deadly strike in Lviv comes as Russian forces are preparing to launch a renewed offensive in Ukraine's eastern Donbas after failing to capture the capital city Kyiv and withdrawing from the country's northern region.
