  • Ivana Trump passed away at the age of 73 on Thursday, former President Donald Trump announced.
  • She was married to the former president from 1977 to 1992 and became a New York socialite.

Ivana Trump, the first wife of former President Donald Trump, died at the age of 73 on Thursday. She is survived by her children Donald Trump Jr, Ivanka Trump, and Eric Trump — and an endless supply of pointed quotes and euphemisms about her lavish life.

"I am very saddened to inform all of those that loved her, of which there were many, that Ivana Trump has passed away at her home in New York City," Donald Trump said in a post on Truth Social. "She was a wonderful, beautiful, and amazing woman, who led a great and inspirational life."

The official cause of her death has not yet been announced. ABC reported that New York City paramedics initially responded to a call of a woman in cardiac arrest at her apartment in Manhattan, and the New York Police Department is investigating whether Ivana Trump fell down the stairs as well.

She and Donald Trump married in 1977 in a marriage that lasted until 1992, falling apart due to Donald Trump's affair with Marla Maples. During the marriage, she held high positions in the Trump Organization and became a New York socialite.

"She very much was a New York person," her former lawyer Ira Garr told Insider. "Certain people become part of the New York scene who are always associated with the city."

She wrote several tell-all books, including "The Best Is Yet to Come" in 1995 after securing a $14 million divorce settlement, and the memoir "Raising Trump" in 2017. Here are nine quotes that offer a glimpse into her lifestyle.

A 'helicopter parent'

In "Raising Trump," Ivana wrote about the family's lifestyle in the late 1980s and 1990s as they amassed a massive amount of wealth as developers in New York.

"My version of helicopter parenting was to bring the kids to work with me in the Trump chopper," Ivana Trump wrote in the book.

Later in the book, while discussing sending the three kids to different private schools in NYC, she said: "The logistics of just getting them there were a nightmare. We had limos and company cars with drivers to take them."

"I believe the credit for raising such great kids belongs to me," Ivana wrote in "Raising Trump." "I was in charge of raising our children before our divorce, and I had sole custody of them after the split. I made the decisions about their education, activities, travel, child care, and allowances. When each one finished college, I said to my ex-husband, 'Here is the finished product. Now it's your turn.'"

After Ivana and Donald Trump finalized their divorce settlement in 1992, Ivana received $14 million as well as their Connecticut mansion, a Trump Plaza apartment, and $650,000 a year for child support.

A few years later in 1996, she made an infamous cameo in the film "The First Wives Club," speaking to a group of divorced women.

"Don't get mad, get everything!" Ivana advises the women.

In 1995, Ivana Trump wrote "The Best is Yet to Come," and insisted in an interview with The New York Times that it didn't revolve around her ex-husband.

"This is not a revenge book for Donald," she told The Times in an interview. "This is an advice book for women. I threw in some of my experiences, but 90 percent is the stories of the women. The last thing I wanted to do is bring Donald in."

In her 2017 book "Raising Trump," she wrote that she hated having other kids over for playdates and had a special guest who was the exception to the no playdates rule: Michael Jackson.

"I avoided playdates like the plague…I did discourage playdates at Trump Tower. The triplex was just too huge and lavish…The only person who had an open invitation to come to the triplex for playdates whenever he wanted was Michael Jackson," she wrote.

'Ivana is what the people call me.'

During a 1995 interview with the New York Times, years after her divorce from Donald Trump, Ivana maintained some distance from the Trump family name.

"You don't have to put down the second name," she told a New York Times reporter in 1995. "Ivana is what the people call me."

In a 2016 interview with the New York Post, Ivana Trump said that she supported Donald Trump as president and even advised him at times.

"I suggest a few things," she told the New York Post. "We speak before and after the appearances and he asks me what I thought."

Ivana said she relayed to him to "be more calm."

"But Donald cannot be calm," she told the New York Post. "He's very outspoken. He just says it as it is."

In her 2017 book "Raising Trump," she wrote about her reactions to Ivanka's relationship with Jared Kushner, whose family is Modern Orthodox Jewish.

"I'm not convinced about some of the Orthodox customs," Ivana wrote, "but if Ivanka was willing to give up lobster and bacon, she must really love him."

While promoting her memoir "Raising Trump," Ivana made a claim that drew backlash from Melania Trump.

"I'm basically first Trump wife, OK? I'm first lady, OK?" Ivana Trump said in an interview with ABC's Good Morning America.

The comment angered Melania's camp, who said the remarks were "attention-seeking and self-serving noise."
